about this project

Magic Memories recognized the necessity for a new mobile capture experience at stadiums, events, and activations, spanning 17 countries and over 200 renowned brand partners.

The project was driven by three main objectives: enhancing automation and efficiency, reducing setup costs and reducing cost of service. Additionally, the system was required to integrate flawlessly with Magic Memories' primary cloud content platform.

We had to meet specific launch dates for our first brand partner, deploying up to 30 separate capture devices for game days at Fenway Park, the home of the Boston Red Sox!

Easy Setup

DWS simplified setup of the devices by using a QR code.  This enables Management Staff to quickly configure many phones and lock the functionality down to the desired level.  Operators are then able to make changes to the allowed photographic settings such as zoom, aspect ratio etc.

This simple configuration ensures consistency in the final product.

Android or iOS

In the development of the mobile app, utilizing React Native offered significant advantages, particularly in terms of efficiency and cross-platform functionality. React Native allowed our team to write a single codebase that runs seamlessly on both Android and iOS devices, dramatically reducing development time and resources compared to maintaining separate native codebases for each platform. This unified development approach also facilitated faster iterations and more cohesive updates, ensuring consistency in user experience across all devices. Furthermore, React Native integrates well with existing code, enabling our developers to leverage native capabilities for optimal performance and enhanced user interfaces. The use of this framework not only accelerated the app's market launch but also streamlined ongoing maintenance and scalability, making it an invaluable tool in our technology stack.

Simple to Use

The mobile capture app is designed to accommodate staff members possessing a broad range of technical and photographic abilities, making ease of use a critical feature. Previously, the process involved cumbersome DSLR cameras, which not only slowed down operations but also required operators to exit the stadium to download content, resulting in missed opportunities for capturing key moments.

In contrast, the mobile application leverages WiFi and 4G connectivity to seamlessly upload data to the MAGIC OS cloud system. This integration allows staff to concentrate on capturing content in real-time, ensuring they remain engaged with the ongoing events. Additionally, the app is equipped with local storage capabilities to manage content during temporary disconnections effectively. It automatically resumes uploading once connectivity is restored, ensuring no moment is left uncaptured. This system significantly enhances the efficiency and immediacy of content capture, making it a robust tool for dynamic event environments.

Ready for the App Store

The app was deployed to the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store restricted to internal access by Magic Memories.  The app is deployed via MDM to the end devices.
